MANGA

Land of the Lustrous
Haruko Ichikawa

What a damn good read. I bought this manga quite blindly, trusting the scattered good opinions of it I caught lurking around. Also, lol gemstone manga. As a Steven fan, I had to buy the first volume even just as a joke. After buying the first tankobon, I just patiently waited for the story to end and kept accumulating the following ones on my shelf, until I was done. Then, one day, I just went and read it all at once.
When I was done with it, I started looking around the internet for some opinions and reviews, and after a hour or two, it hit me: I lacked the last tankobon.

"How could you not realize?" Very simple: the story looked very much over on the last page of Vol.12. I went, and pirated Vol.13 to read the actual conclusion (it was worth it). I will buy it as soon as it's out, which apparently will happen next year...

How to review it without spoiling it for you? You have no idea what awaits you once you start reading. The story is unpredictable, the art and style are incredible,  please, do yourself a favor and read this. I won't even say what it's about, go in blind and just read. I found it similar to... Fire Punch by Tatsuki Fujimoto.

Also, the mangaka actively works with the Pokémon franchise, having illustrated some cards, made some characters (and I also think she influenced the creation of a very specific Pokémon, if she didn't straight out design it herself), so if you like Pokémon you kinda owe it to her to at least try this, don't you think?

Make the Exorcist Fall in Love
Aruma Arima/Masuku Fukayama

This is the reason why I still obstinately browse social media despite disliking them to the core: to stumble upon things I might enjoy, and this is what happened here. Youtube shorts showed me a small preview of this manga, and before I knew I had read it all in the span of 3-4 hours. While MtEFiL might not be the most original or brilliant work ever published, I'm enjoying it greatly.

A Northern Italian exorcist is tasked to protect a Japanese artist, who's seemingly Satan's next victim. She loves to portray the love between humans and fallen angels in their paintings. How will things unfold?

The artstyle is delicious, and I love tragic main characters. The only downside to me is exactly the fact that the protag looks very shota-like and doesn't appear as a hot young adult, otherwise I'd have a top tier husbando in him lmao. "Mr.Priest"~

I'm pretty sure the author enjoyed Chrono Crusade very much, because I could smell several references to it while reading, especially in the way the Church is portrayed.

Read it if you like the sexy and the tragic. I find it very high-school core, but it's not a bad thing at all. Some moments are kind of brutal, but nothing you haven't already seen if you have done your homework reading the classics lol

At the time of this small review, the latest chapter is Episode 65.
